What Should I Do During A Termite Swarm?

What Should I Do During A Termite Swarm?

Termites swarm when reproductive members of a termite colony leave their nest and find new homes. Swarmers are a good indicator that termites are present, and you should contact a pest control professional to get an inspection of your home.

Don’t Panic

Termite swarms aren’t as scary as you might think. They’re actually quite common in the insect world and are often called reproductive flights. These reproductive flights take place when termites are looking for a mate and a new home to establish a colony. They leave the existing colony for a short period of time and fly toward a light source or discarded wings in order to find their mates and a new nesting location. The swarming flight process can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on the type of termite. It isn’t always a cause for alarm, but it can be a sign that termites are actively establishing new colonies and should be monitored closely by pest professionals.

Don’t Spray

If you have a swarm inside your home, it’s important to not spray. Trying to spray the swarmers will only encourage them to make more escape holes and potentially re-infest your home in the future. If you notice swarming termites, the best thing to do is call a professional. They can help you take care of the situation and prevent them from re-infesting your home. Termites are wood-destroying organisms that can cause significant damage to your home, so they’re not something to be taken lightly.
